Border Collie Rescue out fundraising with a small stall at Stockton on the Forest Village Carnival. Nice event with lots of people enjoying a day out with freinds and family in a typical contemporary Yorkshire village. Our thanks to the carnival committee for allocating us a stall, to Robert Hughes for his help and to the people of Stockton on the Forest, for supporting our cause. A Grand Day Out! The Border Collie is designed to be a sheepdog and was originally used for herding livestock in the English and Scottish Borders. Border Collie Rescue assesses all dogs coming into our care for herding ability and will rehome them as stockdogs if that is what they need to do but we also assess and rehome for scent discrimination skills to the Police, Prison Service and Excise to detect drugs, explosives and firearms -- to SARDA and other rescue organisations for mountain rescue and search and rescue work -- to help deaf, blind or otherwise disabled people as well as for working trials, flyball, agility, obedience and other interactive sporting disciplines and many of our dogs have qualified for Crufts in these disciplines. Those that show us they do not need or want to work are rehomed as PAT dogs, pets and companions. |

| Border Collie Rescue - Open Your Eyes
Border Collie Rescue UK shares concerns about the global issues of the abuse of canines and other species along with many other members of the rescue world. These concerns are broader than those factors that immediately affect the Border Collie or working sheepdog and apply to the way we humans treat the creatures we have 'control' over and how we exploit their lives to enrich our own. We detect a certain one sided relationship and imbalance, where man sees opportunity but fails to take responsibility. This video offering simply asks the viewer to open their eyes, look around and be aware - and encourages positive action to address the imbalance. Although we are Border Collie Rescue and therefore specialise in the Border Collie, the attitudes that affect all species also affect our breed. Some of the images shown in this video are distressing - but nowhere near as bad to look at as it was to be the subject. There are also very nice, positive images of Border Collies enjoying themselves. For those who seem to think that we should be not be concentrating on our own breed in the imagery and should have included other species or breeds - not just the Border Collie - well we must work within our remit and we are set up for that breed - however the message of the video is broadly encompasing all species subjected to mans misuse in all countries. We say - open your eyes. 'Wake up and look around you'. 'take a stand against abuse - in all its forms - anywhere in the world. Now if ... |

| English National Sheepdog Trials 2007 - Winners Presentation
The winners over the three days - and the rest of the runners qualifying for a place in the English team to represent their country at the International Sheepdog trials - are announced and presented with their 'Caps' and awards at the end of the 2007 English National Sheepdog Trials. The three days of the Trial were plagued by wind but rain, at least, held off until the last moment and only dampened the last few runs of the event. However by the time of the presentation the rain had settled. Due to the large number of spectators, press and film crew, there was no marquee large enough to hold the awards presentaion so it was a damp, open air event. Perhaps quite fitting as the lifestyle of farmer and shepherd does not stop because of a bit of rain and wind. This has been an excellent three days of trialing and Border Collie Rescue was pleased to be invited to have a stall and be present. The sheep were worse than the weather and presented problems to all the handlers and dogs. And what wonderful dogs - Border Collies everywhere you looked in all shapes sizes and markings. Good natured dogs watching the proceedings with the same enthusiasm as their handlers, although perhaps with a less critical attitude! Colliewood Films is a subsiduary of Border Collie Rescue, set up to support the work of the charity and to promote a better understanding of the Border Collie breed and its welfare. |

| Border Collie Rescue - Patti - Case History
Patti was found as a stray Border collie tied to a caravan in County Durham and came into the Border Collie Rescue centre at a year old in April 2006. She needed a lot of attention and socialisation before we could even start to assess her but she has plenty of the spirit and energy the breed is known for. She showed us that she was good at scenting and retrieval so a number of options were open. Search and Rescue - sniffer dog for the Police, Etc. or another similar discipline. She is in her new home and this video shows her in training for competitive working trials. | Border Collie Rescue - Working Sheepdog Assessment - Jess
We often assess a Border Collie for its owner at our centre near York. Jess belongs to Jim Closs, the cameraman in this instance, who was interested in finding out how much herding instinct she has. As it happens - not a lot - she was stimulated to chase the sheep on a couple of occasions but it was no more than a natural trigger turning into play. She really did not seem to know why she was doing it and then simply lost interest. This is good as she is a pet living in Edinburgh with Arthurs Seat being her favourite walking area. So the sheep on Arthurs Seat are safe - at least from her attention! Although we understood we had permission to use the music originally on this video from the songwriters / performers - it seems the USA arm of their record company disagrees. Hence a change in the soundtrack. The music used here has been substituted by a rock track, Broken, by Stones, from the UT library. As the the video was not cut to suit the original track it has been possible to make a substitute. Meanwhile WMG (Warner Music Group) seem to be a bit heavy handed on those UT user that have incorporated music they 'own'. They could have gone for an advertising revenue deal and got some money that way, but their attitude is outdated. It is not as if anyone is profiting or as if any fee was available or as if they were actually loosing revenue by allowing such use. In fact UT is promoting their wares! Our response is simply to blacklist WMG products and stop purchasing same ... |

| Border Collie Rescue - Working Sheepdog Assessment.
In a routine Border Collie Rescue sheepdog assessment, Jamie, a young red merle rescue Border Collie, is shown sheep for the first time. This is the first stage of our assessment process for all the dogs we take in. After all, the Border Collie is first and foremost a sheepdog breed - so if a dog comes into rescue for re-homing it is only right we should go to the trouble of finding out if it is happier working or happier as a pet. Otherwise it, and its new owner, may be in for a lot of trouble. How would we know if we did not assess them? We wouldn't! | Border Collie Rescue - Pan - A blind rescued Border Collie
Border Collie Rescue offers long term care for some dogs that are difficult to re-home or need more constant care. Pan - a blind Border Collie is one of these. Initially, she was found a permanent home but the couple split up. Not wishing her to have to risk such an occurrence again, it was decided that she should be permanently fostered and remain under our close supervision. She was initially trained by Nicki Oliver and this training has been maintained by our foster carers, ensuring that she is very obedient. A high degree of verbal control has enabled us to give her more freedom. This video was shot in widescreen 16.9 format, which is why the perspective is odd! | Border Collie Rescue - Sheepdog Training - Gael
At Border Collie Rescue we assess every dog around sheep so we can understand the degree of herding interest and ability of each Border Collie we take in. Those that want to work go to working homes, those that don't can go as companions. To keep the sheep in order during assessments or sheepdog training, we use a trained sheepdog we call a 'control dog'. This is a video of 'Gael' being trained to become a future 'control dog' for our organisation. She is being assisted by one of our current control dogs, Dot, who you will see in the background from time to time - never in the way - but always ready!
